Sanatan Wisdom begins cultural research on Krishna’s journey from Mathura to Dwarka

A quiet effort has begun to piece together the forgotten path of Lord Krishna. Sanatan Wisdom, a non-profit research organisation, has taken inspiration from Madhya Pradesh government’s Shri Krishna Patheya project and started tracing the journey that stretched from Krishna’s birthplace in Mathura to his kingdom in Dwarka.

The idea is simple but wide in scope: to understand how Krishna’s presence shaped not just temples or myths, but the social and cultural fabric of the places he touched. The team, led by philosopher-researcher Devrishi, is documenting stories that live in scriptures as well as in local memories.

In Ujjain, they revisited Sandipani Ashram, where Krishna and Balram are believed to have studied the four Vedas and mastered sixty-four arts in just sixty-four days. Villagers still recall the tale of Krishna and Sudama walking to the forests of Narana, about 30 km from Ujjain, to collect firewood for their Gurukul. Today a Krishna-Sudama temple stands there and people offer prayers remembering the bond of friendship.

The map extends further. Janapav where traditions say Parashuram handed Krishna the Sudarshan Chakra. Amjhera, remembered for Krishna’s conflict with Rukmi brother of Rukmini. Kurukshetra the ground of the Mahabharata and in Odisha, the oral traditions that speak of Krishna giving shelter to more than 1,100 women after freeing them from captivity. And at the end of this arc Dwarka where he ruled and established Rajdharma.

To support their work, the team has spoken with archaeologists and scholars including Padma Shri awardee Dr. Bhagwati Lal Rajpurohit, Dr. Bal Krishna Sharma, Dr. R.C. Thakur, Dr. Prashant Puranik and Dr. Raman Solanki. Along with historical texts these conversations with experts and local communities are forming the basis of detailed reports.

Devrishi explains “We are trying to bring together Vedic sources, archaeology, folk beliefs and community memories. The goal is to prepare a comprehensive cultural report that will allow the younger generation to see Krishna not only as a divine figure but as a presence woven into our geography and traditions.”

Co-founder Sadhana Pandey added that the organisation is also working on a documentary. “Documents are important, but stories reach the youth better when they can see and hear them. We want this journey to be both research and experience.”

By connecting scattered places and memories, Sanatan Wisdom is attempting to rebuild a cultural map of Krishna’s path — one that speaks to history, philosophy and to people today.
